When you make an odds bet on a Pass Line or Come bet, you're said to be making a secondary wager called taking odds. When you make an odds bet on a Don't Pass or Don't Come bet, you're said to be laying odds which we will discuss in chapter 4 and 5
Once a point has been established for the pass-line bet the player will be able to place an additional odds bet. In order to bet this odds wager they just have to bet the chips directly behind the pass-line bet as in the image below. Players will be able to bet their odds bet at any time after the point has been established. They are also allowed to take back their odds bet at any time before there is a decision. Self service. No dealer assistance.

This the best bet in the game. In fact, it’s the best bet in the casino. The trick is that the player can only take odds after they have made an initial pass-line bet. The amount they bet wins if the point is rolled before a 7 is rolled.
And unlike every other bet in the casino, the odds bet pays out at true odds. There is no house edge.
Same holds true for COME bets. Once a point has been established for the COME bet they will be able to wager an additional odds bet. The player will toss you an odds bet that you will offset on top of their COME bet as illustrated below. Only you the dealer can position bets in the register (point numbers) This is not a self service area for the player unlike the PASS LINE which is a self service area.
If the point is 4 or 10, taking odds pays out 2 to 1.
Simply double the odds, 10 pays 20...20 pays 40...
If the point is 5 or 9, taking odds pays out 3 to 2.
Think 1 1/2....Odds bet plus half....Blackjack!...
If the point is 6 or 8, taking odds pays out 6 to 5.
Each red $5 chip pays $6
Each green $25 chip pays $30.....
Or Odds +20%
So lets see how all this works out.....I make a Pass Line for $5

Come out roll....7 & 11 win - 2,3,12 lose. Eight ways to win, four ways to lose. Shooter throws a 5. Dealer marks the 5. Now is the time to make an odds bet behind the pass line. I will wager $10 in odds as illustrated below.
The odds on point 5 are 3:2. Four ways to roll a 5, six ways of the seven. 6:4 reduced down is 3:2 meaning that the $10 odds bet will pay 15 plus PASS LINE even money for a total of $20.
Assume for a second that the point rolled was a 4 or 10. The $10 odds would pay double ($20) Three ways to roll a 4 or 10, six ways to roll a seven. 6:3 reduced down is 2:1 meaning that the $10 odds bet will pay $20 plus $5 PASS LINE even money for a total of $25.
If the point rolled had been 6 or 8 the $10 odds bet would have paid $12. There are 5 ways to roll a 6 or 8, six ways of the seven thus the odds are 6;5 meaning each $5 in odds pays $6. My $10 odds bet would pay $12 plus the original PASS LINE $5 even money for a total of $17

As far as the COME bet.....Let me repeat.....The COME bet goes into the register point. Never forget the point numbers are not a self service bet area. Players should set their bet down and get your attention that the chips are for their odds. You will pick up the COME bet and place the chip(s) in the number and the player will make their secondary odds bet that you will offset forward on top of their COME bet.
as illustrated below.
as illustrated below.
The illustration above....The point is 5 and I have a $5 COME bet on the 6 with $10 odds offset on top.
If the shooter rolls a 6 you will pay me a total of $17. My $10 odds at 6:5 pay $12 (Each red chip pays 6) and you will pay the bet in the COME area.
If the shooter rolls a 6 you will pay me a total of $17. My $10 odds at 6:5 pay $12 (Each red chip pays 6) and you will pay the bet in the COME area.
In the above image the odds are paid next to the bet. Both the bet ($5 with $10 odds) and the payoff ($17) are set in the COME area for the player to pick up. BUT...If the player had another $5 COME bet in the COME area....then you would simply pay the $17 OFF & ON and leave the $5 COME bet with $10 odds 'as is' in the number as illustrated below.
No need to take the bet and odds out of the number only to have the player bet $10 odds again.
If the new COME bet (flat bet) is the same amount as the bet that is parked in the number, it gets paid OFF & ON regardless how much odds are bet.
Also worth mentioning that if the shooter makes their pass-line point, the odds on all COME bets are off.
In the image above I have a $5 COME bet with $10 odds. It's the come-out roll for the pass-line. If the shooter throws a six, I will win my $5 COME bet and if the seven rolls I lose that $5 COME bet and get my odds returned.
Taking Odds Bet Summary
- An Odds bet can only be wagered in conjunction with a Pass Line and COME bet.
- An Odds bet can only be wagered after a shooter has established a point
- An Odds bet is wagered behind Pass Line bet or given to dealer to offset on COME bet.
- Odds bets pay out at TRUE ODDS - 0% house edge
- 6 & 8 odds pay 6:5...Think each red chip pays 6, each green (25) pays 30
- 5 & 9 odds pay 3:2...Odds bet plus half., 1 1/2 x, think BLACKJACK!
- 4 & 10 odds pay 2:1...Odds pay double
- If a shooter sevens out - They lose both the Pass Line and Odds bets
- There are limits to the amount players can bet in odds. (2x,5x,10x original pass-line / COME bet) that is posted on the table.
- At a 2x "double odds" table, players can bet 2.5 times their Pass Line / COME bet when the point is 6 or 8
- Odds bets can be increased, decreased, or taken down anytime before a decision. Not so for the original FLAT pass-line or COME bet
- Odds on COME bets are not working during a shooter's come-out roll by default
- Play may choose to have COME bet odds 'work' during come-out roll meaning that they win full amount if the point rolls or will lose full amount if shooter throws a pass-line winner 7
- COME bets or the odds that follow are NOT self service bets once dealer positions bet within point number.
