DONT PASS

The player who bets on the DONT PASS isn't necessarily betting against the shooter who is more likely to be a PASS LINE player, they are betting that the dice wont repeat numbers. They are betting against the dice. Maybe there are those who truly feel that they are betting against the shooter and others truly feel they are betting with the house. Not true. A pair of dice have no emotion. It doesn't matter who or what propels them from one side of the table to the other. This game like all table games is based on mathematical probabilities. In this case a pair of dice. Nothing more, nothing less. 36 combinations of 11 numbers.
The DONT PASS bet is a flat bet (even money) that's made before the come-out roll. On the come-out roll .....1 of 4 things can happen:
- 7 or 11 is rolled and the Don't Pass bet loses.
- 2 or 3 is rolled and the Dont Pass bet wins.
- 12 is rolled and the Don't Pass bet neither wins nor loses. This is called a stand-off or push, and is depicted on the layout as Bar 12. (Some casinos bar the 2 instead of the 12 but it doesn't change the house advantage because both the 2 and the 12 can only be rolled one way.
- 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled and the Don't Pass bet neither wins nor loses but a shooter's point is established.
If a shooter's point is established then on subsequent rolls..... 1 of 3 things can happen:
- A 7 is rolled and the Don't Pass bet wins.
- The shooter's point is rolled again and the Don't Pass bet loses.
- Any other number is rolled and the Don't Pass bet neither wins nor loses but rolling continues.
For the most part, the Don’t Pass is the complete opposite of the Pass Line. Where the Pass Line wins, the Don’t Pass loses and vice versa. You can only bet the Don’t Pass during the Come Out Roll because after the Come out Roll the Don’t Pass is most likely to win and the casinos would never give you that advantage. The minimum bet on the Don’t Pass is the table minimum and it’s not a contract bet unlike the Pass Line so you can pick it up at any time but once picked up you cannot put it back down.
Lets do the math on this bet....Come out roll;
- 7 or 11 lose...There are 6 ways to roll a 7 and 2 ways to roll an 11 therefore this bet on the Dont Pass can lose 8 ways
- Wins on 2 or 3: There are only three ways to win Come Out roll. One way to roll 2, two ways to 3
- Bar 12....Push (Dont Pass line that Bars the 12 from winning Come Out Roll)
- 3 ways to win, 8 ways to lose Come Out roll....Yikes!
Any other number becomes the point number and if shooter repeats that number the Dont Pass Loses. If shooter rolls 7 Dont Pass wins. That Come Out roll is a bitch but once the Dont Pass player have a point number, they are favored to win
- If shooter rolls 4 or 10 - There are only three ways to lose and six ways of the 7 can win
- If shooter rolls 5 or 9 - There are only four ways to lose and six ways of the 7 can win
- If shooter rolls 6 or 8 - There are only five ways to lose and six ways of the 7 can win
As far as the DONT PASS that's about it.....
In a nutshell....
In a nutshell....
- The "Come Out Roll" DONT PASS wins on 2 or 3 and losses on 7 or 11 - 12 is a push
- The DONT PASS player is NOT favored to win Come Out roll
- Any other number rolled becomes THE POINT which if repeated will lose
- The DONT PASS player is favored to win after the dealer marks the POINT.
- The "odds" on 6 or 8 are 6:5 in favor
- The "odds" on 5 or 9 are 3:2 in favor
- The "odds" on 4 or 10 are 2:1 in favor
- The house edge on the DONT PASS bet is only 1.41%
DONT COME
(DC)
(DC)
The truth of the matter is the Don’t Come bet (DC) can best be described as an extension of the Don’t Pass bet just as the COME bet is an extension of the PASS LINE. The only difference between the two (Dont Pass / Dont Come) results from the fact Don’t Come bets can only be placed after the point (4,5,6,8,9,or 10) has been established and are never accepted on the shooter’s come out roll.
Once the shooter has come out and there is a point number, they are free to place their Don’t Come bet. The proper place to do it is in the betting box located in the upper corner of the table as illustrated above, that says “Don’t Come Bar 12”. The Don’t Come bet closely mirrors the Don’t Pass bet and is played in two rounds. Thus, if 7 or 11 are rolled on the first round, you lose, but if the two Craps numbers 2 or 3 are rolled, your Don’t Come bet will win. The third Craps number 12 is “barred” from winning to prevent players from gaining an advantage over the casino, so if the shooter throws 12, the roll will result in a push. If one of the following 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 is rolled on the second round, it becomes a Point and you win if 7 is rolled before this number repeats.

So, lets play a hand on the DONT...
I make a $5 DONT PASS bet 7 or 11 lose, 2, 3 win 12 is push - Come Out roll
8 ways to lose, only 3 ways to win Yuk
I make a $5 DONT PASS bet 7 or 11 lose, 2, 3 win 12 is push - Come Out roll
8 ways to lose, only 3 ways to win Yuk
Shooter throws a 10 - Great! I would have preferred the shooter to roll a 2 or 3 so I can win on the Come Out roll but the 4 or 10 is my second choice because there are only 3 ways to lose as the battle is now only between the shooter repeating a 10 or throwing a 7-Out. No other number matters. It's a war between 10 and 7.
Now is the time to make a DONT COME bet. The main point is 10. I will wager $5 and put it in the Dont Come box.as illustrated below.
Ready to launch into another number I must first go through the misery of the first roll for my DC bet, 7 or 11 will lose it, 2 or 3 will win and 12 is a push.
Here we go...
Shooter throws an 11...I lose my Dont Come bet
I bet again...Shooter throws a 5
Here we go...
Shooter throws an 11...I lose my Dont Come bet
I bet again...Shooter throws a 5
Dealer picks up Dont Come bet and puts it behind the five. Notice the small boxes above each point number (4,5,6,8,9,or 10)
This is where chips are positioned that need a 7 before the point number rolls.
I am now playing two games in one. The main point is 10 and I will lose my Dont Pass bet if the shooter rolls another 10. I also have a bet against the 5 repeating. If the shooter throws another 5, I will lose that bet. If the shooter throws a 7....I will win both bets at the same time and the game starts over with a new shooter and Come Out Roll.

I am now going to make another $5 Dont Come bet. I'm going to play 3 games in one. But first I must first go through the misery of the first roll for my DC bet, 7 or 11 will lose it, next roll 2 or 3 will win and 12 is a push.
Here we go...
Shooter throws an 12...I PUSH
Shooter throws a 6...My DC goes behind the 6
Unlike a COME BET we discussed in chapter 2, the DONT COME player has the option not to go behind a number. Once behind a number (4,5,6,8,9,or 10) the DC is favored to win. There are more ways to roll 7 than any of the point numbers. So some DONT players refuse to bet behind the 6 or 8 even though they would be favored to win. Slightly favored to win, 5 ways to roll 6 or 8...But many will wave off the dealer. Seriously. These folks are a different breed....you'll see.
Anyway, I'm not refusing the 6 and the dealer will park my $5 behind the 6

Everything is set. Notice the above illustration I have three bets and all three are favored to win. The main point is 10. I have a Dont Pass line bet hoping and praying the 10 doesn't roll again. I also have two Dont Come bets against the 5 and against the 6 up there.
What I need now is a 7. I will win all three bets at the same time.
What I need now is a 7. I will win all three bets at the same time.
Dice roll.......
Shooter throws another 6....$@&)//&@!!!
I lose my Dont Come bet behind the six
You see it? Gone. Shooter starting to piss me off now...

I will make another Dont Come bet
Dice roll.....
Dice roll.....
Shooter throws the 6 AGAIN
What I need now is a 7. I will win all three bets at the same time. If the shooter rolls a 10 my Dont Pass will lose. That wont affect my bets against the 5 or 6. I can still win those if the shooter throws a 7. I dont want a 10, 5 or 6
