DEALING CYCLE
The dealing cycle is just a fancy name for what you have to do, and in which order.
The dealing cycle consists of the following, in this order:
ALLOW TIME FOR PLAYERS TO PLACE THEIR BETS
Different casinos have different rules about how quickly they want a dealer to get through the dealing cycle. Some casinos want you to wait until the players have placed all their chips on the table before you spin the ball, and some casinos want you to spin the ball as soon as you’ve finished paying out the last bet, which gives the players hardly any time to get their next bets placed. You’ll find out which the casino prefers when you start your job at the casino.
SPIN THE BALL
The ball has to spin at least 4 times around the wheel to be a legitimate spin. If you spin the ball badly, and you don’t think it will go around the wheel at least 4 times, stop the ball spinning, and announce ‘NO SPIN’. Put the ball back in the last number it dropped into, and start the spin again.
If the ball flies out of the wheel, have your Supervisor go get it. They will check the ball for any possible damage, and give it back to you. Place the ball into the last winning number, and start the spin again.
WAVE OFF AND ANNOUNCE ‘NO MORE BETS’
Most casinos want you to wave off (stop the players placing any more bets) when there are approximately 4 more rotations of the ball to go around the wheel.
If players have already stopped betting when you wave off, a cursory wave of your hands across the layout will do. While you are waving off, announce ‘No more bets’ in a loud, clear voice, so players know that no more bets are allowed for this spin.
If players are still placing bets when it’s time to wave off, lean over the table and make sure every part of the layout is waved over with your hands. This will physically prevent players from placing any more bets. Don’t forget to announce ‘No more bets’ in a loud, clear voice as you wave your hands over the entire layout.

Note: Post Betting
If a player places a bet after you have waved off and announced ‘No more bets’, this is called Post Betting and is not allowed. Return that bet to the player. If you allow a player to place a bet after your wave off, you are 1) breaking the casinos rules and 2) making the players think that your wave off has no significance. A good roulette dealer has control of the game at all times, and making players understand the rules by returning chips placed after your wave off is a great way to control the game.
PLACE DOLLY/MARKER ON WINNING BET
For game protection, when placing the marker on the winning bet, you must prove that you have no chips in your palm, that you could surreptitiously drop onto the winning bet.
Therefore, the correct way to place the marker, is to hold the marker between your second and third fingers, with your palm facing UP. This shows everyone that your palm is empty.
Which hand should you use to place the marker?
Answer: It depends on which type of casino you are working in. A casino with cameras, or a casino with human inspectors.
If working in a casino with cameras
Separate the layout in half. Use the hand closest to the zeros to place the marker on low numbers (0 to 18). Use the other hand to place the marker on high numbers (19 to 36).
I say ‘use the hand closest to the zeros’ because there are both right handed and left handed roulette tables.
Right handed tables have the wheel located to the right of the dealer. This is the most common type of table. Low numbers are therefore located closer to the dealers right hand.
Left handed tables have the wheel located to the left of the dealer. Low numbers are therefore located closer to the dealers left hand.
If working in a casino with human inspectors
Human inspectors are becoming less prevalent, as more and more casinos are beginning to use cameras now. But if you happen to get a job in a casino that still uses human inspectors, you have to follow the ‘outside hand’ rule when placing the marker.
When a human inspector is used in a casino, the inspector sits in a high chair that is located between a right handed roulette table, and a left handed roulette table. From their elevated position, the inspector can oversee both tables.
In this case, if you mark the number with the hand closest to the inspector, the inspector’s view of the bet is blocked by your arm and hand. Therefore you ALWAYS mark the bet with your OUTSIDE hand (the hand closest to the high numbers), even if you are placing the marker on a low number.
ISOLATE THE WINNING BET
Isolate the winning bet by flicking single chips away from the bet with your finger tips, or by picking up stacks of chips and placing them away from the winning bet. You can learn more about how to do this properly in the CLEARING THE LAYOUT section.

REMOVE OUTSIDE LOSING BETS
Remove outside losing bets by beginning at the end of the table, and proceed toward the zero’s, removing chips closer to the players first. Learn more about how to do this properly in the CLEARING THE LAYOUT section.
CLEAR THE LAYOUT
Clear the layout by separating the layout into 3 sections. Clear the section at the end of the table first, the middle section second, and the section closest to the wheel last. Learn more about how to do this properly in the CLEARING THE LAYOUT section.
SET UP THE WINNING BET
Also known as ‘Opening the bet’, setting up the bet allows the cameras or inspector to see the chips on the winning bet more clearly.
How to set up the winning bet
Part One
Put all chips of the same color together.
Part Two
If there are more than 5 chips of the same color, offset the chips into groups of 5 on top of one another. This allows the number of chips to be counted more easily. If there are more than 20 chips of the same color, make a stack of 20 chips and offset any remaining chips on top of the stack.
Part Three
Offset different colored chips, so underneath chips can be seen more easily.
PAY THE WINNING BETS
There is a specific order in which bets must be paid.
If you remember the following rules, in the order they appear, working out which order to pay bets will be easy.
Rule One – Pay chips with lower odds first (there is one exception to this rule).
Rule Two – Pay bets closer to the end of the table.
Rule Three – Pay bets closer to the players.
See the exact order in which bets must be paid in the PAYING THE BET section.
REMOVE THE MARKER/DOLLY AND ANNOUNCE ‘PLACE YOUR BETS PLEASE’
In some casinos, removing the marker and announcing ‘Place your bets please’ has significance, and in others, not so much.
Some casinos allow the players to begin placing new bets, even before the dealer has made the winning payouts, as long as the players new bets are not placed close to the winning number, that the dealer is still paying out.
In other casinos, players are not allowed to begin placing new bets until every payout has been made on the winning number. In these casinos, the removal of the marker, and the announcement of ‘Place your bets please’ means the players can begin betting again. In these casinos, keep control of the game, and do not allow players to place new bets until you remove the marker and make the announcement.
