Craps math is easy. Unfortunately, because of the unique environment of casinos, it takes the average dealer around five years to realize that fact....True
Picture
That image right there. That's the real key. Most craps dealers invariably learn all the 'keys' (shortcuts) in paying prop bets and as that experience turns into years, we tend to rely more on memory. We remember what a $25 or a $50 horn pays.

To me everything is a hop bet. With the exception of the only two combination bets; Any Seven Any Craps, all other one roll prop payoffs are hop bets 16/31. Yes the 2,3,11,12 are hop bets.

Let's get started

Picture
Craps wins = 3x bet     Eleven wins = 7x bet
The bet must have same amount on both sides.

Let's say the player bets a $2 C&E, you know you have $1 on each bet, if 2, 3 or 12 roll on the dice, the player wins $8  minus the $2 bet = $6 and "still up to win again." (3x $2 bet) If the 'yo 11 rolls, player wins $16 minus the $2 bet = 14 and "still up to win again"(7x $2 bet)

$5 C&E is $2.50 on each side. If craps win you have 2.50 x 8 = 20 - 5 = 15 or 3 times the bet. If eleven wins you have 2.50 x 16 = 40 minus the $5 bet = 35 or 7 x the bet (7x5=35)

$25 C & E
You can do $12.50 x 16 then subtract 25
Or $12.50 x 8 then subtract 25
Or
3 x the bet when craps hit = 75
7 x the bet when yo hits = 175

Say it with me...
"The bet must have same amount on both sides"

Okay, I admit this image is a bit overdramatic. May have to turn your phone sideways for a sec

  • Above that red line are doubles and each pay 31.
  • Below that red line are the remaining 30 combinations of a pair of dice.
  • All pay 16 for 1

2/3 ACES, ACE-DEUCE SPLIT = 7x bet
Bet must be equal amount on both sides
1/5 - 2/4 SIX HOP EASY WAYS = 7x bet
Bet must be equal amount on both sides
2/6 - 3/5 EIGHT HOP EASY WAYS = 7x bet
Bet must be equal amount on both sides
2/3 - 4/1 FIVE HOP BET = 7 x bet
Bet must be equal amount on both sides
5/4 - 6/3 NINE HOP BET = 7 x bet
Bet must be equal amount on both sides

Two way splits pay 7x the bet 16 for 1
Picture
Picture
  • The bet plus half the bet,add a zero, subtract 1/2 the bet
  • Same as pay for 5 or 9 place bet, add a zero, add half the bet
Let's say the player bets a $20 hi/low. You know he has $10 on each side of the bet, and each side pays x 31. Therefore $310 minus the $20 bet = $290. The "key" is thinking of a $20 place bet on 5 or 9 that pays $28, then add a zero (280) then add half the hi/low bet (10)........280 +10 = 290.  (and still "up to win again)

The chips on the world bet also tells you
how much is bet on each number

WORLD BETS
Also use the 5-2 key
  • 2 or 12 = 5x plus bet
  • 3 or 11 = 2x plus bet
  • 7 = PUSH

Example :
$5 whirl bet 2 or 12 roll:
5 x 5 = 25 + 1 = 26

3 or 11 roll:
5 x 2 = 10 + 1 = 11

That $35 bet up there?
(5+1+1)

2 or 12 roll:
35 x 5 = 175 + 7 = 182

3 or 11 roll:
35 x 2 = 70 + 7 = 77
Picture
5+5+5
2 or 12 roll:

75 x 5 = 375 + 15 = 390

3 or 11 roll:
75 x 2 = 150 + 15 = 165
Picture
Picture
THREE WAY CRAPS
Bet must be equal amount on all three options

2 or 12 roll = 9x bet + amount on bet
3 rolls = 4 x bet + amount on bet
Example:
$3 three way craps.
2 or 12 hit = 9 x 3 + 1 = 28 (31-3)
3 hits = 4 x 3 + 1 =13 (16-3)

THREE WAY 6 HOP

Bet must be equal amount on all three options
Hardway = 9x bet + amount on bet
Easy way = 4 x bet + amount on bet

THREE WAY 8 HOP

Bet must be equal amount on all three options
Hardway = 9x bet + amount on bet
Easy way = 4 x bet + amount on bet

HIGH LOW YO

Bet must be equal amount on all three options
2 or 12 hit = 9x bet + amount on bet
Yo hits = 4 x bet + amount on bet

2-3-11 ACES ACE-DEUCE YO
Bet must be equal amount on all three options
2 hits = 9x bet + amount on bet
3 or 11 hit = 4 x bet + amount on bet

THREE WAY SEVEN

Bet must be equal amount on all three options
4 x bet plus amount on bet

Do you see the pattern?
If all 3 bets have equal amount...
Doubles pay 9x plus amount on bet
All others pay 4x plus amount on bet

Here's another stupid key

The low side as we call it is the
16 for 1 payoff (3 & 11)

The high side is considered
31 for 1 (2 & 12)

Low side = 3 x bet
High side = 7 x bet less 1/4

Example:
$4 horn bet - 3 or 11 rolls
4 x 3 = 12 (16- 4 = 12)

$4 horn bet - 2 or 12 roll
4 x 7 = 28 - 1 = 27
Picture
Some casinos will allow a breakage prop bet, meaning the player bet an incorrect unit that can't be paid to the penny on a dollar game.

Example:
$5 horn bet divided by 4 =
$1.25 on each number

If the low side hits =
$5 x 3 = $15, the player is safe

However if the high side hits
1.25 x 31 = 38.75 (-$5 bet) = 33.75
Player gets $33 instead of 33.75

Remedy? Absolutely! That's why I'm here

Low side payoffs on any horn bet = 3 x bet
Breakage or not

High side breakage payoffs 31 for 1
$5 = 33
10 = 67
15 = 101
25 = 168
50 = 337
75 = ???
Stop right here, any moron that doesn't ask for a nickel to make this an $80 horn should be shot!

Keys are fun, I get it. They may get all fuzzy when players make multiple bets. I never understood why some players do this but it's their money and they can bet whatever they want. We get this guy that always bets $25 Horn High 11 plus a $25 World and a $10 High Low. If 12 rolls you may be trying to figure out three pay keys but I'm simply going to figure out how much is on the 12 ($15) and the total of the three bets ($60)

If 2 or 12 rolls....
There is $15 bet =
15 x 31 = 465 - 60 = 405
If 11 rolls...
also $15 bet...
15 x 16 = 240 - 60 = 180

And if 3 rolls....
$10 bet =

10 x 16 = 160 - 60 = 100

Sometimes these players scatter bets all over the place. Any dealer who has the FIRE BET layout with all the Hop Bets printed on it knows you are going to see multiple one roll bets all day long. Prop bet keys like the bets described above may handcuff you on multi-bet prop action. Be careful.

P.S.
How did I know 15 x 31 is 465?
