Pass Line and COME bets....The dice decide what number(s) players bet on.
Place bets...The players decide which number(s) to bet on.
A Place bet is a standing bet with the dice that can be made on any of the point numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 at anytime. The bet is for the chosen number and against the 7.
1 of 3 things can happen with this bet:
  • The point number is rolled and the bet wins.
  • A 7 is rolled and the bet loses.
  • Any other number is rolled and the bet neither wins nor loses but rolling continues.
These bets are for players who want quick action and can't stand to see those precious point numbers being rolled without having them covered. "Place the 6 & 8 please, $6 each"  Although they're popular bets and certainly better than proposition bets, with the exception of the 6 & 8, they're not the best bets you can make. The house exacts its percentage on them by paying off at less than true odds. Here are the payoffs:

A Place Bet is not a contract bet so they can take it back at any time. Players can also add to and remove from the bet as much much as they want at any time.

Place 4 & 10 win 9:5
When you Place the 4 and 10 each $5 pays $9. Once you get to $20 on the 4 or 10 you’re going to want to Buy them. When you Buy a number you pay a 5% vig (a commission) to get True Odds, so the 4 and 10 would get paid 2:1
(Next chapter we will dig deep into this subject)

Place 5 & 9 win 7:5
Every $5 you bet wins $7 when you Place the 5 or 9 so players should bet in increments of five.

Every $6 players bet wins $7 when they Place the 6 or 8 so they should bet in increments of six. Such as $6, $12, $18, $24, 30, and any other bet that is a multiple of six.

Breakage bets.
I learned a good lesson as a break-in dealer one day. Player bets $10 each Place bets on the 6 & 8. I simply "advised" him that $12 each would be the proper bet. His wife tells him "Honey, give him $4 more so your bets are proper he says"

Next roll...SEVEN OUT

He picks up what chips remain in the rail and leaves, telling his wife ...."Those dang dealers, always trying to squeeze every dime from me"

From that day on, I don't give players advice unless they ask for advice. If that player had asked "is $10 each a proper bet on 6&8?" I would have said "No sir, $12 each would be, as each 6 wins you 7"........
SEVEN OUT.......He asked.

Let players bet what they want. Don't advise anyone on how to play unless they ask you directly. Most novice players will.

Breakage Place bets on 6 or 8
Any amount less than $6 pays even money
$5 pays $5
$10 pays $11 (6 proper pays 7, 4 pays 4)
$15 pays $17 (12 proper pays 14, 3 pays 3)
$20 pays $23 (18 proper pays 21, 2 pays 2)
$25 pays $29 (24 proper pays 28, 1 pays 1)
$50 pays $58 (48 proper pays 56, 2 pays 2)

Every player has a spot for their Place Bets so the dealer knows which bets belong to whom. Each number has four spots in front and four spots behind it to represent possible eight players on each base.

The placement is based on where the player has their chips on the rail. It's a map. Remember, COME bets go inside the box number and place bets "On the line" as illustrated above.

Place Bet numbers at the same time.
Players won’t be betting the Pass Line,
which is why they are including

There are many ways to bet a Place Bet or multiple Place Bets. There are terms that are considered proper when making bets.
  • “Each” – The term “each” is used when a player is betting the same amount on two numbers. Example: if they wanted $6 on both the 6 and 8 they would say “Six each 6 and 8”. The 4, 5, 9, and 10 are all bet in $5 increments. If they wanted $10 on both the 4 and 10, they would tell the dealer “Ten each 4 and 10”.
  • “Buy” – When players use the term “buy”, they are betting a Place Bet that is being paid True Odds. A 5% commission is involved (Vig) and is usually paid when they win the bet, although, some casinos will charge the 5% commission before the bet has won. We will discuss this in Chapter 7.
  • "Press" - To double the bet.
  • "Press a unit" - To increase the bet by a unit - Example; player has an $12 Place Bet on the six, they want to increase the bet by $6

Down with Odds
Sometimes players will bet both Come Bets and Place Bets.
For instance, let's say a player has a Place bet on the 5 and decides to make a Come bet. The shooter then rolls a 5 and their Come bet moves to the 5.
Picture
  • Come bets are always on the inside of Place bets as illustrated below.
Picture
  • The $5 place bet pays $7. You cut it out and put in in the Come area.
  • The $5 Place bet 'comes down' and you set it next to the $7 payoff.
Picture
You ask the player how much odds they would like. Player tells you "$10 odds please". (Our players are so nice on this website) You will give the player $2 change and put $10 odds on their Come bet. DOWN WITH ODDS

  • In the video below, I will show you multiple examples of DOWN WITH ODDS
