Well.......It's more fun learning how to deal craps than knowing how
Be prepared to work nights, weekends and holidays under tight surveillance and watchful eyes. You will earn a minimum wage. Your income will be dependent upon gratuities (tokes). You will either keep tokes from players directly or you'll pool them with some if not all other dealers 24/7. Most likely the latter. And I am sorry to say that 75% of dealer tokes are earned by only 25% of the pool more often than not.
The good news is; it's not a bad living after you establish experience and limit mistakes. Benefits, 401k, paid time off, free meals, a 20 minute break every hour as you only work six hours of your eight hour shift. But the best part is there are good people in this business. Fun people. Hard working and professional.
The dealing school you may be enrolled at has instructors that will do whatever it takes to prepare you to become a craps dealer. Most are working in casinos and teaching on the side, they may be retired. Others like myself, are table games supervisors that also cross train dealers at work.
We all have a certain pride in seeing you succeed and prosper. However; this game will take an effort on your part to practice the skills necessary to make it all work. There is one common denominator among all craps dealers; they put some serious time into practicing. People in this business will only help those who help themselves.
PRACTICE.
Like anything in life, you get out what you put in.

Your inner self is going to attempt to tell your outer self that I CAN'T DO THIS. Whenever you tell yourself you can't do something, guess what? You won't.
YOU CAN DO THIS. Everything will fall into place even if you feel overwhelmed learning it. Just about every craps dealer everywhere had the same negative feelings and self doubt that you may experience. Don't quit the class. Quitters never win, winners never quit. You will be fine and you will look back on this experience as a goal ACHIEVED!
Trust me, it will all fall into place and when it's all said and done, it will be a decision you will not regret.

Your instructor will emphasize five major areas of dealing craps;
1. Dealing procedure
2. Game protection
3. Tools of the trade: Size, drop cut, pick
4. Communication skills
5. Mathematics of the game

Pattern Players
Dealing to pattern players is a seperate skill but a skill you need to learn nonetheless. A pattern player will wager in predetermined actions following a specific result. The good dealer will anticipate exactly what will occur thus making their job easier.....True.
I strongly recommend that as you are learning to deal dice that you watch live games. You will naturally watch the dealers but I also want you to watch for pattern players. Watch players that are engaged into the game, always active. Watch what they bet, when they bet it.
Try to predict what the player will do. Almost all people who gamble on table games play a predictable pattern. BJ, Roulette you name it.
