The following are common final exam questions administered by dealing schools and casinos that train their own dice dealers. This test will cover many elements of the game and help you pass an exam that may come your way.
This website is not a textbook on dealing craps. It is a reference guide that supplements text book training. All exams generally base the questions on the text book or handout that you received upon enrolling. Probably best to actually read the material your instructor gave to you.
Having said that, the following questions are universal in my opinion. If you are being cross-trained in a casino, be aware that you will be quizzed on table and bet limits. Ask a floor supervisor for a copy of your craps table bet limits. How much can a player bet on hardways, hop bets ect.... I assure you that bet limits will be in a final exam.

ANSWERS...
What is a FLAT bet?
A flat bet is a craps players original or contract bet, before laying or taking odds.
What is TAKING ODDS mean verses LAYING ODDS?
Simple answer is when TAKING ODDS the player is not favored to win (Think of PASS LINE after point is established) thus their odds wager will pay more than even money. When LAYING ODDS (Think of DONT PASS after point is established) the player is favored to win thus must bet more in odds to win less.
Can a PASS LINE flat bet can be picked up at anytime after a point is established?
NOPE. The PASS LINE original bet (Flat bet) is a contract bet that cannot be removed before a win or lose decision. Once the point is established, the casino is favored to win because there are more 'ways' to roll a 7 than any of the point numbers.
Can a COME flat bet be picked up after it lands on a number?
NOPE. Same answer as above. The COME BET original bet (Flat bet) is a contract bet that cannot be removed before a win or lose decision. Once the COME BET lands on a point number, the casino is favored to win because there are more 'ways' to roll a 7 than any of the point numbers.
Can the odds behind the PASS LINE or COME bet be taken down by the player?
YES, the reason is because an odds bet is a 'TRUE ODDS' wager and the casino (nor the player) has any mathematical advantage. The player must physically remove the odds wager behind the PASS LINE and ask the dealer to remove the odds that are offset on top of a COME bet.
Can a DONT PASS line bet or DONT COME flat bet be picked up at anytime after a point is established?
YES, the reason is because the player is favored to win, therefore the player can ask the dealer to remove the bet at anytime before a win lose decision.
Can a player add or reduce their odds on PASS LINE, COME bets?
Yes, so long as they do not exceed the limit. If for example the base dealer notices that the odds wager exceeds the limit, the dealer can advise the player to increase the flat bet or reduce the odds down to limit. If the base dealer doesn't notice the over limit odds wager, most casinos will pay the amount that is over limit as a PLACE BET.
Can a player add or reduce their odds on DONT PASS , DONT COME bets?
Yes so long as they do not exceed the limit. This player is laying odds. For example; if the table is a 2X odds game, the player can LAY up to the amount of winning 2X their FLAT bet.
Can a player call "off" their flat PASS LINE or COME bets for the next roll?
NO.... Once the point is established, the casino is favored to win because there are more 'ways' to roll a 7 than any of the point numbers.
Can a player call "off" their DONT PASS LINE or DONT COME bets for the next roll?
NO...The player can only remove the bet from the table. The reason is because the player is favored to win, therefore the player can ask the dealer to remove the bet at anytime before a win lose decision. The player must physically remove the DONT PASS wager and ask the dealer to remove DONT COME bet. It's important to mention that the player will not be allowed to put either bet back after the dice roll.
Players must make a PASS LINE or DONT PASS bet in order to shoot the dice? True or False?
TRUE, in order to shoot the dice, player must make a PASS LINE or DONT PASS wager.
Can a player bet on both PASS LINE and DONT PASS?
Yes a player can wager on both PASS LINE and DONT PASS. The reason a player may do this are twofold. A novice player may think by doing so, they can not win or lose but they can receive free cocktails. However; Casinos BAR 12 on the DONT PASS, meaning the player would lose the PASS LINE bet when a 12 is rolled on the come-out roll and not be paid on the DONT PASS hence having an advantage over the player on such a bet scenario. Other players do this to LAY odds if a 4 or 10 becomes the point or TAKE odds on the 6 or 8. The knowledgeable player knows not to play like this. Generally only a novice player will do this and most likely lose in the long term.
Players can bet the FIELD, PROPS or PLACE bets without a PASS LINE or DONT PASS bet?
YES for the most part. Remember, the player must make a PASS or DONT PASS wager to shoot the dice but casinos do allow players to make other wagers such as FIELD, PROPS but some (not all) casinos demand that a player make a PASS LINE or DONT PASS wager to play the vendor side bets, these are side bets casinos pay a royalty to host such as the FIRE BET for example.
Can a player bet the PASS LINE after a point is established?
YES. Once the point is established, the odds favor the casino.
Can a player bet the DONT PASS after a point is established?
NO WAY. Same reason as above.
Can a player take their HARDWAY bets down?
YES
Can a player call their HARDWAY bets off for one or two rolls?
YES
Why is the word "FOR" in the PROPS? ...10 for 1...8 for 1...5 for 1...16 for 1
So why would they do this? To make the bets appear that the pay more? Nope
Its is easier to subtract. That's why. When players make multiple bets in the props, it's much easier to subtract all their bets rather than subtracting only the losing bets. The term "for" in the props is a dealer friendly way to payoff bets faster.
Why do the HARDWAYS 6 & 8 pay 10 for 1 and the HARDWAYS 4 & 10 only pay 8 for1...?
The 4 or 10 can roll three ways. One way wins. The remaining two "easy ways" lose plus they lose six ways of the seven. The odds of winning are 8:1
The 6 or 8 can roll five ways. One way wins. The remaining four "easy ways" lose plus six ways of the seven. The odds of winning are 10:1...Bottom line...The HARDWAY 6 & 8 pay more because there are more ways to lose.
Why does the PROP bets 2 & 12 pay 31 for 1 and the 3 & 11 only pay 16 for 1...?
There is only one way to roll a 2 or 12......There are two ways to roll a 3 or 11
Can a player take their one roll PROP bets down after winning?
YES
Can a player take their PLACE bets down?
YES
Can a player call their PLACE bets off for one or two rolls?
YES
Dealing on the stick, which end of the table do you watch?
The stick dealer watches the end of the table that the dice land on. This is referred to as tandem dealing (two of you) Both you and the base dealer work together to insure both the prop bets and base bets get paid correctly. The supervisor and the base dealer on the shooter side do the same.
You show up to work and the supervisor tells you to enter the game at second base. What is second base?
Standing behind the table..... the left side of the table is third base....right side is second base. Four dealers; stick, second base, third base and the fourth dealer is on break.
Shooter picks up two dice and switches hands. What do you do?
Demand that both dice return to the table playing layout. Advise the shooter that they cannot switch hands. The shooter must pick up the dice with the hand they shoot with.
Shooter picks up both dice and reaches down and grabs their cocktail taking the dice out of your sight. What is the procedure you must follow when you lose sight of the dice?
Demand that both dice be set on the table when you lose sight of them. The supervisor will inspect the dice then you will return them to the shooter.

It's a roll
One dice lands on stick dealer stack...?
It's a roll
One die lands on marker puck...?
It's a roll
One die lands on the bank...?
NO ROLL - Unlike the bets above, the bank is considered not in action. Same hold true NO ROLL if a die lands in the bowl.
Shooter accidently drops one die but the other die lands on the opposite side of the table...?

Dice land on top of one another...?
This is an age old question. Some casinos consider this to be a good roll and other say NO ROLL
The wrong player shoots the dice...?
NO ROLL
One or both dice didn't hit the back wall...?
Generally speaking, this is a good roll but the stick dealer must inform the player that BOTH DICE MUST HIT THE BACK WALL
Shooter throws both dice but one or both land less than half way down the table...?
Depends. If the shooter is 90 years old and frail, it may be a good roll. I would let the supervisor make this call. If the shooter is able to throw both dice across the table this will be NO ROLL more often than not as casinos demand both dice pass the midway point of the table at least if not have both dice hit the back wall.
Can the shooter who throws one or both dice off the table request the "same dice"...?
YES
Shooter throws one or both dice off the table. Players other than shooter scream "same dice"...What do you do as a stick dealer?
Dump the bowl
Shooter throws the dice, one is leaning against the rubber wall around the inside of the table, or a die leans on a bet (chips). What do you do?
Whatever a die leans upon, the rubber wall around the inside of the table, or a die leans on a bet (chips)..... imagine the object is ice.
If the ice melts.....what number would be on top of die?
